It’s been a long time…

…oh yes…it has.  I shouldn’t have left you, without a dope post to read to.  *crickets*  Yeah, yeah…I tried to be a little humorous.  lol

Anyway, a lot has happened with me in the last several months.  Where should I start?

1.)  I’m on the verge of finishing school to receive my bachelor’s degree in graphic design.

2.) I’m expanding HDSepia by doing more portraits, special events, and hopefully fashion/artistic images.

3.)  Baby #3 will be due this July.  My family and I are excited!  I’ll be getting in front of the lens for new maternity images very soon.

4.)  I’m a part of Abioye Clothing, a Dutch based clothing company founded by my wonderful friend, Patrick Marcelino from Rotterdam.

5.)  I have new artwork that I’ve created under Soulfully Yours Art Design.  Also, I can be found in Instagram (yes, I jumped on that train) under @soulfullyyoursartdesign.

6.)  Hopefully all of this wonderful news will garner more posts here on SD/PN.  🙂

That’s pretty much everything!  I look forward to bringing you all new posts very soon.  Here are a couple images to share for the time being.  🙂

Question:  Who has wonderful news to share??

New artwork and poem: “Midnight Blue”

Now, normally I don’t post my poetry with my artwork, but this is the exception.

What most folks don’t know is that I write.  I love writing as much as art.  I have a bunch of stories and poems that I’ve written, however, I’ve been debating whether or not to feature it as well along with the artwork.

I wrote “midnight blue” about a month ago.  It’s an erotic, sensual prose.  I figured today was a great idea to create an art piece to coordinate with it.  Again, I used Illustrator and Photoshop to create this piece.  I absolutely love it.  I planned to put this on my FB artist’s page, but I didn’t want to chance someone reporting me and being banned from posting images.  I figured this is a more open-minded place to post this particular poem and artwork.

Here it is…

midnight blue

his strong, gorgeous body was bathed

in midnight blue mixed with

the illuminating glow of the full moon

his eyes shined brightly like a starry sky

his sensuality was such a surprise

to my eyes–

he captivated me with his masculinity

fantasies of my softness meeting his hardness

as the moon aglow high in the sky

gentle squeezes and sweet whispers

grinding hips and deep moans

songs of passionate bliss

filling the room

i sighed deeply

from my daydream

and allowed it

to burn my memory

as a fulfillment in my heart  ©bth2013

New Artwork: “Shine”

Abstract Icon: Nina Simone

You all will have to thank my little brother for suggesting this one to me.  I loved creating Nina!  Unapologetically honest, talented, and beautiful, the late great who was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon in North Carolina, inspired many with her rich contralto.  Gospel, jazz, blues, folk, and classical were some of the genres she sang in her concerts along with monologues and dialogues she’d tell.

Every time I see an image of her, I hear, “My Baby Just Cares For Me”, which is one of my favorite songs.

New artwork: Abstract Painting- Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Abstract Icon- Bob Marley

Hello all!  I wanted to share two new pieces of art that I’ve created recently.  It’s ironic that both pieces are inspired by music, which I love.

Abstract painting inspired by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

Abstract painting inspired by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

This abstract painting was inspired by a group that I heard a few years ago and fell in love with their music.  Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is comprised of a group of brothers from Chicago who play horn.  Their father is jazz artist Phil Cohran.  Their music is infectious, lively, and soulful to the ears.  Even my soon to be 3 year-old was dancing to their music.   When I listened to their music before I began painting, I closed my eyes and envisioned flashes of color with every note.  That’s how I came up with the artwork.  Make sure to peep and listen to the video I’ve embedded so you all will get an idea why I love this group so much.

Abstract Icon- Bob Marley

I wanted to do an abstract of Bob Marley for sometime now.  I looked at a few images of him as a reference before I began creating this in Illustrator.  I put a great deal of detail into this to show the passion of him singing.  I wished I debuted this on what would have been is 68th birthday the 6th of this month, however, life got in the way.   Overall, I love the outcome and colors.

What do you think of the artwork?  Which one do you like out of the two?  Comment below!

New artwork: Hauntingly Beautiful, Immersed, Hot Vinyl, and SoulFlower

I have been busy creating new works of art in the last few weeks.  Again, this incredible surge of creativity washed over me and I couldn’t help but to put it into great use.  Here they are!

hauntinglybeautiful“Hauntingly Beautiful” is one of those images that I created thinking I wanted to put a flower in the mix, however, it turned out really stunning on its own with the combination of the woods, gradients, and textures.

“Immersed” came to me from looking at water.  I found the colors really beautiful here.  It almost looks like fabric. Immersed

hot_vinyl“Hot Vinyl” was really fun to create.  I loved making the records and how they have their own “personality” with the labels.  This is a tribute to old school soul and hip hop music.

soulflowerAnd lastly, “SoulFlower” rounds out the group of new artwork.  I was inspired by a person who bloomed from their tribulations in life, only to shine like the sun when they smiled.  The colors represent their happiness and positivity they have with life.

Another musing post…

Awhile ago, I created an original abstract artwork of a person who I thought was a really cool idea to surprise them with.  I was so proud of the work I’d done after I completed it.   The piece took a couple of days to do.  I put a lot of detail into it.  I then sent the person a message with the artwork attached.  Well, *sigh* they laughed at it.  It wasn’t the kind of laugh that they were flattered by the piece.  It was the “this right here is wack” kind of laugh.  They never thanked me for it.  I’m not going to lie, it actually hurt me a bit because I spent a lot of time on it.  It wasn’t something that was slapped together in hopes of it all coming over perfectly.  Since then, I shut myself off completely of doing anyone abstract caricatures of folks.

I recently had someone ask me if I could create original artwork portraying their likeness after they had seen my work.  I was extremely happy because 1.) I never had ANYONE ask me to do something original, and 2.) they told me that they LOVED my work.  I was truly humbled by the inquiry.  I’m so excited to start it soon!

My questions for y’all are:

Have you had an artist who made you into a work of art?  If so, were you flattered by the gesture or did you find it simply strange?

New Digital Art: Carry On

Woo hoo!  My 30th post!  🙂

I debuted new artwork on my Soulfully Yours Art Design page on FB.  “Carry On” came to me as I finished it.  I used different paint brushes, blend modes, and textures to create this abstract  Despite what you may have gone through in life, hold your head high and carry on.

What do you think?

New Digital Art: Headwrap Goddess

Terrible.  Yes, I’ve been terrible.  I haven’t blogged in over two months!!!  *shaking head*

Well, I have an explanation.  I’ve been sooooo bogged down with my graphic design classes at school and my older son’s t-ball practice and games.  Yes, I’m now officially a t-ball mom.  🙂

Now…back to art.  I have been creating a few things.  I’ve done another digital abstract painting, a nude abstract, and this latest one called “Headwrap Goddess”.

I used Illustrator to create my goddess, adding gradients and texture.  The mud cloth print for her dress I created as well.  The background is all Photoshop using a few images with several blend modes.  I even added my signature on the bottom right-hand side, which looks way more personal and interesting than typing my name and copyright.

The concept behind the art is to have her surrounded by different elements with her striking beauty:  water, sun, wind, and earth.

I really love the outcome.  What do you think?
